Following a mention in Alice Lascelles’ article in the Financial Times’ ‘How To Spend It’ magazine, Packamama is over the moon to share our collaboration with Château Galoupet. Acquired in 2019 by French luxury group LVMH, Château Galoupet is a Cru Classé situated on the French Riviera, within the Côtes de Provence appellation. Given France’s eminence in the world of wine, it’s a collaboration that we’re particularly proud to see launch.
Château Galoupet is revealing two new rosés as part of the estate’s reawakening, their flagship Cru Classé (a pure terroir wine), and Galoupet Nomade. We’re thrilled to say their Galoupet Nomade 2021 rosé will be offered in our 100% recycled PET, lower carbon footprint eco-flat bottles. This wine is a fresh, light Côtes de Provence rosé, described as having “notes of red berries and grapefruit, and a hint of salinity. A delicate but lively blend of Grenache, Syrah, Rolle, and Cinsault.”

A vineyard that’s been on the map since the 18th century, Château Galoupet’s history lies in the unique ecosystem of the 77 hectares of protected woodland and 69 hectares of vineyards. Re-founded in 2019, the estate has spent three years examining the soils, nurturing the vineyards, and reviving the nature on the estate with the aim to be a lighthouse of sustainability for the wine industry, region and group.
More climate-friendly packaging is just one small part of the estate’s wider sustainability practices. With the support of local experts and associations, Château Galoupet’s ambition is to craft exceptional and exemplary expressions of the unique terroir of Provence in the most respectful way to the environment. Here’s how else they do it:
- The estate, which has more protected woodland than vine, is a local sanctuary for biodiversity homing indigenous species including parasol pine, cork oak, rare chamomile and over 90 different species of fauna including 12 species of bat and the Hermann tortoise
- 200 beehives have been integrated into the estate and this spring will see the installation of a queen bee fertilisation station, one of only 12 in the world
- The vineyard has been in organic conversion since 2020 and will be fully certified by 2023, with biodynamic plots also being used to explore new wines for the future
The collaboration excitingly marks a series of firsts for Packamama in wine, material and design. Not only is it the first time our bottles are being used for a Côtes de Provence rosé, it is also the first time the 100% recycled PET they’re made from is specifically Prevented Ocean Plastic. In our view, it’s the most impactful type of PET because it is directly rescued out of the environment from areas at risk of ocean pollution and creates income opportunities for local microentrepreneur bottle collectors. A win-win for people and planet!
The result? A beautiful bottle of rosé, crafted with care from ground to glass, that is “perfect for picnics, outdoor adventures and sharing special moments on the go.”
On Packamama’s side, Commercial Director Amelia has been at the helm of the project, commenting, “With the launch of Packamama in March, we’re delighted that one of the first new projects shared with the world is Galoupet Nomade, following the re-founding of Château Galoupet. The team behind this project, boldly lead by Jessica Julmy, are treading a new path when it comes to sustainability in the wine industry and we’re proud to be part of their journey.”
Needless to say, the great lengths that Château Galoupet is going to protect and preserve its surroundings is perfectly aligned with Packamama’s own mission to create packaging protecting Mother Earth. We can’t wait to see Galoupet Nomade 2021 launch on European e-retailers in the next couple of months. In the meantime, it is available for pre-order now from www.châteaugaloupet.com.
