Packamama Triumphs with Recycled Content Award at 2024 APCO Annual Awards

Sydney, Australia – November 21, 2024 – Packamama is proud to announce that they have been awarded the Recycled Content Award at the 2024 Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) Annual Awards, held on November 21 at Jones Bay Wharf in Sydney. This accolade underscores Packamama’s dedication to sustainable packaging solutions, particularly through the use of 100% Australian recycled PET in its innovative eco-flat wine bottles.

APCO plays a pivotal role in Australia’s packaging landscape, leading the development of a circular economy for packaging. The organisation’s Annual Awards celebrate entities that exemplify leadership and innovation in sustainable packaging practices. This year’s event highlighted the industry’s collective progress towards the 2025 National Packaging Targets and beyond.

Packamama’s multi award-winning eco-flat wine bottles are made entirely from Australian recycled PET sourced from Visy’s Smithfield recycling facility in NSW. This approach not only reduces environmental impact but also sets a new standard for the integration of recycled materials in packaging. By prioritising local recycled content, Packamama enhances the sustainability of its products and supports a circular economy.

The Recycled Content Award category featured esteemed finalists, including respective industry leaders Amcor, Diageo, and Henkel. Packamama’s recognition among such distinguished companies highlights its significant contributions to sustainable packaging and its role in advancing the industry’s environmental objectives.

Alex Adda, Sales & Sustainability Manager at Packamama, expressed gratitude for the honour:

“Receiving the Recycled Content Award from APCO is a testament to our team’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and innovation. We are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of packaging design to create solutions that are not only functional but also environmentally responsible. This recognition motivates us to continue leading the charge towards a more sustainable future for the packaging industry.”

APCO CEO, Chris Foley, applauded the winners stating:

“It has been a great pleasure to hear the success stories of collaboration, innovation and leadership from this year’s finalists and winners. The Awards demonstrate the industry’s progress to meeting the 2025 National Packaging Targets and more broadly how we are shaping the future of packaging here in Australia. It is empowering to see organisations across the industry laying the foundations for a stronger packaging system beyond 2025 and making tangible progress toward implementing a circular economy for packaging. I can’t wait to see the ground-breaking achievements and positive change that emerge over the next year.”

Packamama remains committed to its mission of delivering low-emission, sustainable packaging solutions that align with global sustainability goals. The company looks forward to building on this achievement and continuing to drive positive change within the industry.
